September of 1939 was a frightening time for Britain as the nation had just declared war on Germany. In his Christmas broadcast of that year, King George VI addressed the British Empire in an effort to encourage and inspire for the troubling times ahead. He chose to quote from English author Minnie Louise Haskins — a poem which was originally published as “God Knows” in 1908, but soon became known as “The Gate of the Year.”
It reads like this:

Today, as I issue my first posting of 2026, I say to you “God knows” and He is the one who stands at the gate of your year and mine. As we read on together, let’s remember He is the reason for all the seasons and is your present help in every situation.
This year, I want to share with you some truths I have learned over the past 47 years of ministry. These have been productive years in my personal growth and I have so many stories that demonstrate the loving kindness and mercy of the Father God and His Son, Jesus.
During my ministerial years, I have been on the pastoral team of three effective churches. I give full credit to everyone I have worked with and to Holy Spirit inspiration that guided us all to accomplish the divine vision and positions that exalted the Lord Jesus Christ. As Hebrews says, this is truly a “so great a salvation” (Hebrews 2:3), and we must be students of the Word and the Spirit to be successful in the roles we must play.
And so, I am inviting all those who would like to hear what I have to say to join me here, on Jerry’s Jams & Notions. I will share with you the challenges of life as well as the vision and purposes that God has for all of us to accomplish. He desires for us to be effective witnesses empowered by the Holy Spirit — the wonderful counselor. I hope you will find it interesting as I navigate the divine direction for us all.
Truly again, I say “This is so great a salvation” and God will provide the anointing for all the breakthroughs we need as we walk His path.
A fellow minister once said to my wife Bev and I, “Keep the faith and the faith will keep you.” An atmosphere of blessings comes when we keep our minds full of thoughts that celebrate the goodness of our loving God. We must focus on the Lord, see His perspective and the bigger picture that took place on the Cross of Calvary and is ours in this “so great a salvation.”
Watch for my next post. Keep the faith and the faith will keep you.
Pastor Jerry
